Client that organizes peer support groups reached out to Synthelize and wished to track their membership growth and be able to monitor the health of their peer support groups. They wanted the flexibility to track overall membership growth, peer group attendance, and recruitment efforts through a number of Power BI dashboards.
The client was storing their membership information primarily in an Azure SQL database.
Synthelize guided the client in creating a Power BI Online environment and obtaining Power BI Professional licenses for key staff who would monitor the dashboards.
Working with the client, Synthelize began to prototype Power BI dashboards that tracked key client metrics in the areas of recruitment, membership retention, and peer group health.
Most dashboards worked on several levels - first, aggregate numbers were provided to measure progress against year, month, quarter, and week goals. Fine-grained detail is available at each level should a team member wish to dig further into the data.
Power Query is the ETL glue that holds the dashboards together. Data is pulled on an hourly basis from the membership database and the data in the dashboards is refreshed. This allows staff to get close-to-realtime visibility into their organization's growth.
The client started using the new reports immediately to track progress against their goals. In addition to providing feedback through overall numbers, the detail levels of the report allowed them to dig into the data further to determine what parts of their growth strategy were working or not working.
